Historic Columbia River Highway Trail - Hood River to Mosier
Info:
Dubbed the "King of Roads," the Historic Columbia River Highway was the nation's first scenic
highway.
This is how the Friends of the Historic Columbia River Highway describe the road: "Imagine crafting a national treasure on a landscape so revered that each viewpoint is protected, the design and materials in complete harmony with the natural elements, and the creation so good that people come from all over the world to marvel at its perfection. This is the Historic Columbia River Highway – the King of Roads – a pathway along the spectacular Columbia River Gorge."
The Historic Highway was built between 1913 and 1922. This section of the highway between Hood River and Mosier is now closed to vehicular traffic and was converted to a paved trail for pedestrians and cyclists. The trail offers amazing views of the Gorge and winds through the restored Mosier Twin Tunnels. This is a great trail for families to hike or bike because the trail is wide, paved and away from traffic.
To reach the Twin Tunnels segment from the west, take Exit 64 off I-84 and follow the signs.
To reach the trail from the east, take I-84, Exit 69 to Mosier and follow the signs.
