Info:Bonneville Lock and Dam is located 40 miles east of Portland and consists of serveral dam structures that together complete a span of the Columbia River between Oregon and Washington. The dam was built by the US Army Corps of Engineers for the purposes of electrical power generation and river navigation. Construction began in 1933 on the first powerhouse and was finally opened in 1937. A second powerhouse was opened in 1981. The dam features fish ladders to help native salmon and steelhead get past the dam on their journey upstream to spawn. Bonneville Lock and Dam is named for the Army Capt. Benjamin Bonneville, an early explorer credited with charting much of the Oregon Trail.. Amenities:
