FREE SNACKS before the hike!!
Come to the Klickitat River Valley, enjoy beautiful Fall colors, and join Klickitat Trail Conservancy (KTC) members and supporters for KTC's 9th anniversary hike. We will meet at the new Lyle Trailhead and KTC will treat everyone to snacks before the hike. There will be two hiking options. The first will be a strenuous 8+ mile hike one way from the Fisher Hill Trestle to Pitt. This hike involves a car shuttle. The second is an easy shorter hike, 4 miles round trip looking at plants, from Lyle to the Fisher Hill Bridge. The hikes follow the Klickitat River through oak woodlands. Both hikes are flat, but the trail is rocky, so sturdy shoes are required. Bring water and a lunch. You can supplement your lunch with some of KTC's FREE TRAIL SNACKS. KTC is excited to announce that a caboose will soon be placed at the park in the town of Klickitat in commemoration of the old railroad. Following the hikes, people are welcome to go to Klickitat to see the caboose and enjoy further celebration.
Meeting Place: 9:30 AM at the Lyle Trailhead (junction of Hwy. 14 and Hwy. 142, in Lyle, Washington). From Portland, take I-84 east to exit 63 (downtown Hood River), exit there, and follow the detour signs to the Hood River Bridge. (Exit 64, the Hood River Bridge exit, is under construction, so you have to take the downtown exit to get to the Bridge.) Cross the bridge and turn right/east on Hwy. 14, and go about 13 miles to Lyle. (Note: the printed FOG hike schedule inadvertently lists this hike under Tuesday, October 11. The correct date is October 23. The travel directions listed for October 11th are correct.)
