THE MUSIC
Featured performers Marv and Rindy Ross have a long and colorful musical history, from the Seafood Mama days of the late 70's to their success on Geffin Records in the 80's, to their work with the Trail Band in the 90's, and on to the theater piece Ghosts of Celilo. Although they have recently been ranked in the "VH1's 100 Greatest One Hit Wonders of the 80's" (number 32 to be exact) with their Quarterflash hit "Harden my Heart," they are still cranking out hits, and their recent CD Goodbye Uncle Buzz is proof. Marv's uncanny ability to write specifically for Rindy's voice is remarkable, and as a duo, they put on a very powerful performance.

Sweethearts of the folk music scene in the Northwest, Kate Power and Steve Einhorn bring to the mix their compelling harmonies, guitars, banjos, ukuleles and smiles. "Travis John," their tribute to a young life lost at war, has made a huge impact in the folk music world, and was awarded the Grand Prize for "music that makes a difference" at the prestigious Kerrville Folk Festival in Texas in 2006. Deepening the sense of community in their audiences across the country, this duo lights up the stage with their truly engaging performance style and compelling songs.

Other musical talent includes West Virginia songwriter Heidi Muller, well known for her song "Good Road," which is the theme song of the radio show Inland Folk; melodic fingerstyle guitar balladeer Rodd Ambroson; jazz and blues virtuoso vocalist Carolyn Lochert; and Janis Carper, whose voice and guitar rock on everything from tender love songs to punchy blues. All four collaborated on a CD released last spring – Songs from the End of the Road. Rounding out the evening’s music is Joe Schlick, well known to many Gorge residents as the owner of Big River Grill in Stevenson, Washington. Joe wowed the Summer Fishtrap audience with his solid guitar playing and a voice that's big, rich and bluesy.

THE WORDS
Two of Oregon's best-known and loved authors will read from their work.

Craig Lesley is the author of four novels, including Winterkill and River Song, a memoir, and numerous other works. He has received three Pacific Northwest Booksellers Association Awards, the Western Writers of America Golden Spur Award for Best Novel, and an Oregon Book Award. He has been the recipient of several national fellowships and holds a Doctorate of Humane Letters from Whitman College. He is currently the Senior Writer in Residence at Portland State University. Both Storm Riders and The Sky Fisherman were nominated for the Pulitzer Prize.

Molly Gloss is a fourth-generation Oregonian who lives in Portland. Her novel The Jump-Off Creek was a finalist for the PEN/Faulkner Award for American Fiction, and a winner of both the Pacific Northwest Booksellers Award and the Oregon Book Award. In 1996 Molly was a recipient of a Whiting Writers Award. The Dazzle of Day was named a New York Times Notable Book and was awarded the PEN Center West Fiction Prize. Wild Life won the James Tiptree Jr. Award and was chosen as the 2002 selection for "If All Seattle Read the Same Book." The Hearts of Horses, published in 2007, is the novel of a young woman breaking horses for several ranchers in Eastern Oregon in the winter of 1917.
