 BIGFOOT BASH AND BOUNTY

August 28, 2010
Stevenson, WA

Did you know that Skamania County, Washington has the highest recorded number of Bigfoot sightings in the world? Or that the entire county is an official Sasquatch Refuge? There are two county ordinances in place regarding Bigfoot. The first, number 69-01, dated April 1, 1969 reflects a fine of $10,000 and/or five years imprisonment for the wanton slaying of Yeti, Sasquatch, Bigfoot or “giant hairy ape”. The ordinance defining the complete boundaries of Skamania County as a “Sasquatch Refuge” was made law on April 16, 1984. In celebration and recognition of this elusive creature and in an effort to promote the natural beauty and unlimited recreational opportunities in the rural areas of Skamania County including the communities of Carson, Home Valley and Stabler, Wind River Business Association is holding the 3rd Annual Bigfoot Bash and Bounty.

Bigfoot Bash and Bounty will take place Saturday, August 28, 2010. The base camp for the weekend’s activities is Home Valley Park just off Washington’s Highway State Route 14 in the heart of the Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area. Saturday will begin early with a pancake breakfast at 8:00 a.m. Just in time for the Bounty “hunters” to fuel up before heading off in search of the massive beast. Participants in the Bounty pay a $5.00 entry fee per team, couple or individual and receive a map of the area with clues directing them to 12 locations where Bigfoot may be seen. Mark the sightings on your map (by noting the answers found on the likeness) and then return the form to become eligible for an amazing array of prizes. The area covered by the Bounty includes the gateway to Mount St. Helens and the Gifford Pinchot National Forest along with the communities of Carson, Stabler and Home Valley and Sasquatch may appear in a variety of settings.

Children can enjoy a variety of fun activities including a Sasquatch scavenger hunt on a smaller scale in Home Valley Park. In addition to the peaceful hunting of Bigfoot, the weekend’s activities include kids’ crafts, the Cave Monster Carnival featuring inflatable rides with a 30’ triple slide, vendor booths with crafts and food, a beer garden, the “Yeti Yard” offering Walking Man beer and on Saturday night the “Bigfoot Boogie” with live music by “The Shop” and “Jive Turkey”. Saturday afternoon, regional Bigfoot experts, enthusiasts and authors will be on hand to share their insights, research, personal stories and experiences. These speakers include Larry Lund, also known as the “Sasquatch Sleuth”, Robert Michael Pyle, author of “Where Bigfoot Walks” and Thom Powell, author of “The Locals”. An open microphone will be available throughout the day for folks to share their own sighting stories.
